Best Hardeners & Densifiers

Concrete Densifier and Surface Hardener Review

The best concrete densifier and surface hardener is a silicate concrete sealer. Silicate sealers penetrate into the concrete where they chemically react to form a permanent crystalline barrier within the pores. Once the crystalline barrier has fully cured, the concrete will be left with in increased surface strength of up to 25-45%.

The two most common types of concrete densifiers and surface hardeners are lithium silicate sealers and sodium silicate sealers. Both types of sealers spark the same chemical reaction in the concrete, and produce the same calcsium silicate hydrate (CSH) structure. The difference is that sodium silicate sealers have a larger molecule and lithium silicate sealers have a smaller molecule. For that reason, sodium silicate sealers are commonly used on dense concrete and lithium silicate sealers are commonly used on dense concrete. Lithium silicate sealers are also fast-acting, making the the preferred densifier for concrete polishing applications. Learn more about Concrete Densifiers.
